If your shoe storage area is a disorganized mess, follow these simple shoe organization tips to organize shoes with a neat shoe organizer system.

It's easy for shoes to end up in a pile of clutter. They are unattached pairs used for different outfits, different types of weather, and for different seasons. They are also the last item of the wardrobe to be put on, which makes it easy to grab a couple pairs, try them on, and then run out of the house. For this reason, it is important to organize your shoes and to develop a system that allows you to easily scan for a pair in a clutter-free shoe organizer system in which every pair has a home.

Follow these steps to organize your shoes:

Collect Your Shoes and Purge

  • Find all of your shoes from around the house and put it in one central location.
  • Match all your shoes into pairs
  • Create a separate pile for all shoes that you no longer want, need, or will use.

From the pile of shoes you don't want or need, decide which of these can be donated and which should be thrown away. Place the shoes to be donated in a box for donation and the rest in the trash.

Organize Shoes

  • Separate your shoes into 'cold weather' and 'warm weather' piles. So if it is open toed, place it in the warm weather pile and if it is a pair of boots you wear during colder days, put in the cold weather pile.
  • Now separate your shoes from each pile into smaller piles based on either color or type of shoe.

Shoe Organizers

Choose shoe organizers that will meet your needs.

  • Clear shoe boxes are a must unless you want to take a picture of each pair to place the picture on every shoe box. Shoe boxes will, at the least, need to be used for off season shoes to protect from dust and grime. If you have the shelf space, they can be used for all shoes
  • Other shoe organizers can be purchased based on need. There are over the door shoe organizers, tall spinning shoe organizers that save vertical space, shoe storage solutions that hang on a closet rod, and shoe storage cubes. You can also find Shoe Storage products at Organize It.

Categorize Shoes

Now that the shoes have been separated and you have shoe organizers to store your shoes, you can categorize and organize them.

  • You will want to keep off-season shoes, and shoes that are worn infrequently, protected in shoe boxes. These shoes can be kept in areas least accessible.
  • Shoes that are used frequently, keep in the most accessible place.
  • Organize your shoes on the shelf or on your shoe organizer by type or color
  • When the season ends, switch your cold and warm weather shoes.
