Books need to be organized and arranged for easy access and pleasurable reading. Here are simple and easy ways to sort and categorize books of all kinds and types.

Organizing books is essential for any book lover simply because if books are just stashed randomly one would never find a particular book when one needs it. This would lead to feeling lost, frustrated and even, angry. So, to make life simpler and reading more enjoyable get started by using this tips to organize books and make your bookshelves as well-arranged as the library.

Organize Books According to Genre

An avid book lover has a huge number of books of various genres and therefore, the easiest way to catalogue books is according to genre. Collect all your books together and start piling them into stacks according to genre. For instance, all fiction would go together and then get further sub-categorized into romance, drama, thrillers, mystery and horror. Then, non fiction would be further divided into biography, autobiographies, sports, politics, collector books, travel journals and so on.

Organize Genre According To Author

Once books have been organized according to genre, they should be further organized according to authors. In other words, the organizing structure would be genre-author. For instance, all mystery books by an author would be placed together; however her autobiography would go into the autobiography section.

Organize Authors According to Names

Once books have been organized according to genre and then author, it is time to give them even more structure and system by organizing the books according to the names of the authors or alphabetically. You could go by last name, first name or the other way round. So now the organizing structure would be genre-author-alphabetical order. So, all mysteries by Mary Higgins Clark and Agatha Christie would be organized as Fiction-Mystery-Christie, Agatha followed by Fiction-Mystery-Clark, Mary Higgins.

Use a Book Organizer Software

Most libraries use a book organizer software which makes it really easy to catalogue and categorize books and there is no reason why it cannot be used for your home library. Download a free software such as MyBookLib Organizer 1.08 or any other similar product to help organize books easily and quickly.

Allocate Specific Space for Books

The final step is to give the now neatly organized collection of books a home. Whether you decide on a set of bookshelves, a complete closet or a whole room for a personal library, it is essential to have a specific space to keep your collection. Then, arrange books in the order worked out above. This would not just give books a designated place but also make it easier to add new books to existing collections.

Once this exercise has been completed, it would be a pleasure to be able to reach out and grab the book that you were looking for. It would make reading a greater joy and also, keep the house looking neat and tidy.

Hi

Good advice, but I've gone one better. I married a librarian! Or is that cheating?
