Here are simple and easy steps to organize jewelry and keep earrings, chains and bracelets all in one place.

Jewelry adds style and elegance to outfits and therefore, must be well-organized and kept neatly. This would allow one to find the right ornaments and coordinate outfits with appropriate earrings, bracelets or necklaces. Organizing jewelry does not take a lot of time and these simple steps would help to create a well-organized jewelry box.

Collect All Jewelry in One Place

The first step in organizing jewelry would be to collect it all and place it together. This will help you see what trinkets need to be repaired, thrown out or given away, and what needs to be kept. Moreover, it will make the task of matching earrings and sorting everything into categories much easier. Begin by grouping all like items together and keep aside those that have been outgrown or those that were bought on an impulse but have never been worn.

Organize Jewelry According to Type

The next step would be to sort the piles of jewelry into types. In other words, it can be sorted into gold jewelry, silver jewelry and so on. Another way would be to sort it into formal, casual, office wear. For those who do not own too much jewelry, it would be easier to simply let the categories be earrings, chains, pendants and bracelets.

Cleaning Jewelry

Before storing jewelry, it is important that it be cleaned and polished so that it is ready to wear. Silver jewelry can be cleaned with silver polish and a soft cloth while gold and diamond jewelry can be cleaned in warm, soapy water and then, rinsed and rubbed with a soft, lint-free cloth. Items with broken clasps or missing screws should be kept aside and taken to the jeweler for repair.

Storing Jewelry

The sorted and cleaned jewelry can then be stored in a variety of ways.

  • Smaller collections and everyday wear can be placed in a jewelry organizer or a jewelry box and kept on the dresser.
  • Family heirlooms and specialty jewelry should be kept in their special cases.
  • Another way would be to store them in dresser drawers fitted with dividers.
  • It is also possible to store earrings in ice trays placed inside the dresser drawer while necklaces and bracelets can hang neatly on a row of hooks placed near the dresser.
  • More valuable items should be stored in a safe or a bank’s safe deposit box.

Once jewelry has been sorted, organized and stored properly, it would be extremely easy to mix and match necklaces and earrings and choose the right jewelry for every outfit and occasion. Trinkets and ornaments bring out the character of an outfit and the right piece can speak volumes. So, spend some time sorting and organizing them to create an enviable collection.
