Keeping Gift Packing Supplies Organized

Aug 21, 2009 Prerna Malik

Keeping track of wrapping paper, ribbons and bows is not easy. Here are ideas on how to organize gift wrapping supplies.

A beautifully wrapped gift looks pretty and indicates the thought that went into not only the selection of the gift but also its packaging. Young children and grown-ups, alike, delight in receiving gifts that have been wrapped innovatively and thoughtfully. However, this means not having to hunt for the right wrapping paper or the appropriate ribbon or bow. Organize gift wrapping supplies and create beautiful gift baskets, hampers and boxes.

Here are some ideas on storing packing supplies easily and effectively.

Storage Boxes with Dividers

The easiest way to store gift wrapping supplies is to invest in a box with divided compartments. Sheets of wrapping paper can be folded and placed on the top while other packing supplies can be placed in the compartments. Another option is to buy a box with a big compartment below and a divided tray on top. This makes it easy to store more sheets of gift wrap.

Hanging Storage

If space is a constraint, a hanging storage system is ideal. There are quite a few options available online at thecontainerstore.com or spacesavers.com. These storage systems have separate compartments for gift paper and other packaging material. This hanging storage system can hang on the rod in an office supplies closet or even from a hook on the back of the door.

Drawers with Drawer Organizers

Gift supplies can easily be stored in drawers, which have been separated using drawer dividers. Sheets of gift paper can be neatly folded and sorted according to color or occasion and kept in a larger compartment along with gift bags, while ribbon rolls and bows can go into smaller compartments. Place a small rack near the drawers to hold gift baskets or hampers

Create a Gift Closet

A gift closet will be possible, if there is space and an extra cabinet or closet. Use the closet to stock paper, gift boxes and baskets. Ribbons and bows can go into separate containers and placed on shelves for easy access. Closet space makes it easy to store more gift packing supplies and additional stationery, such as gift tags, without much difficulty.

Some other tips for organizing gift packing material are.

  • For quicker gift wrapping, organize gift paper according to color or occasion. For instance, pastels can all be neatly rolled and placed together while bold colors can go together. Alternatively, Christmas wrapping papers can be kept together while those meant for Baby showers can be stored together.
  • Keep a pair of scissors and a tube of glue handy or store gift wrap supplies where sewing and hobby supplies are kept. This will make it easy to find other stationery and craft material to decorate a gift.
  • Avoid bulk buying since paper tends to look frayed and faded with time.
  • Try to coordinate the color of ribbons and bows with the color of the gift wrap. This will add to the overall look of the package.

So, go ahead, stock up on gift boxes, bags, wrapping paper, ribbons and bows, and create an appropriate storage system for them. Packing a gift will never be difficult and time-consuming. Create beautifully wrapped gifts and bring greater joy and delight to your loved ones.
