Sort, categorize, and store are the main steps to organize your CD collection. Organizing your CD collection saves you time and beautifies your living space.

Before you begin to organize your CD collection, put on your favourite upbeat music to keep you motivated during the process. Sort, categorize, and store are the three main steps to organizing your musical compact discs.

Sort CDs

  • Gather all your musical CDs into one place
  • Keep and eliminate are the names for the two sorting piles for the CDs. Keep those that you enjoy listening to and are playable. Eliminate any from your music collection that are unplayable due to damage such as scratches.
  • As well, donate CDs that do not bring you listening pleasure. Local libraries, schools, shelters, and your friends would appreciate these. Another option is to sell them to a CD reseller; this type of business is common at flea markets.
  • Once you have eliminated all CDs from your collection, it is time to categorize the keep pile.

Categorize CDs

Genre, artists, albums are a few options to categorize personal CD collections. The purpose of categorizing is for easy access and retieval. Do not categorize according to albums if you seldom remember the name of an album. Also, categorize to the needs of the family to ensure they will be returned to their correct location.

Each organizer of their music may have to try a few options before they find the best system for their CD collections. No matter the categorical system chosen, it is best to leave empty spaces to add new CDs effortlessly.

Storing CDs

Storing musical CDs is highly dependent on the space and design of a home. Many people are looking for a solution to store their CDs that saves space. Solution to the space issue is to elimate the use of CD jewel cases. Jewel cases take up a great deal of space and it is difficult to find an appeasing solution for storage unless they are hidden in closed bookshelves. With that said, it is best to store your musical collection in high quality CD storage units.

Storage solutions without the CD jewel cases are varied. Before buying the CD storage unit, count the number of CDs that need to be housed to assist in making an informed choice. As well, ask friends and co workers what has worked best for them. Do not just rely on informercials to decide on the appropriate storage solution; as they can be quite misleading.

Sorting, categorizing, and storing your musical cd collection takes effort but once complete it will save time and frustration. Organizing CDs is a must to ensure you are listening to all your favourites any time of the day.
