Decluttering can be a daunting task, especially if you're a shopaholic or a packrat. But don't let your fear stop you from organizing your home and office.

Decluttering can improve your life. Are your closets bursting with unused things? Do you have an entire room in your house devoted to your unused and forgotten possessions? Is your office desk buried in unsorted papers and supplies? If any of these sound like you, heed this article.

Organize Your Home, Organize Your Life

By being organized physically, you can become organized mentally. Laziness and procrastination is contagious. The longer you let your clutter pile up, the more you’ll procrastinate in other aspects of your life, such as dating, eating well, exercising. Clutter may not directly affect your health, but it is just another thing that weighs you down.

Improve Your Mood

Clutter causes stress. You may avoid it, or keep telling yourself to get organized. But the more you collect, the more you procrastinate. And the more you procrastinate, the more your stress levels will rise. It’s a vicious cycle. Take the time to get organized and the weight will lift off your shoulders.

Become More Efficient

Decluttering may take the better part of a day or week depending on how much stuff you have. But by spending this time organizing, you’ll give yourself more time later on. You’ll stop losing things amongst your clutter and therefore save time (and stress) in searching. Also, you’ll stop wasting time doing all those inefficient activities you once did to procrastinate cleaning, like surfing the web and watching TV.

Make Some Extra Cash

Wouldn’t it be nice to make some money off the things you don’t even use? You could have hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of merchandise piled up in your guest room closet. Take the time to purge, and unless it has sentimental value, let it go. Don’t keep things because “you may need them at some point.” If you haven’t used it in a year, it’s safe to sell.

Before having a garage sale, do your research. Some items you planned to sell at a garage sale for one dollar could be worth a lot more online. Check eBay for similar items to yours and observe how much they’re selling for and how many bids the items are getting. Take the time to sell online. You may have more valuable items than you realize.

Then have a garage sale. Don’t waste your time by tossing boxes full of junk onto your driveway and hoping people will sort through them. That’s not a good way to sell your stuff. Display your things on shelves or tables so that everything is visible. And price everything. Don’t make people ask you for a price. And price it to sell. The cheaper you price your things, the more people will buy. Getting a dollar or even twenty-five cents is better than not selling your things at all. Here are some more tips on how to have a successful garage sale.

Go Shopping

If shopping is your hobby, then decluttering will not only give you extra cash to shop, but it’ll also make room for more things. Just remember, if you do plan to purchase more stuff, you must declutter often.
